New Cabinets, Refacing or Repainting
Not every kitchen needs new boxes. If the existing cabinets are solid plywood or well-built particle board with square face frames, refacing the doors and drawer fronts or repainting them can change the whole kitchen for a fraction of a full replacement, and the money goes into counters and tile instead. Replacement makes sense when the boxes are water damaged, when the layout wastes space with dead corners and no drawers, or when you want a different height or depth. We will look at what you have and tell you which path gives you more for the money instead of defaulting to the bigger invoice.
Layout and Level Come First
Before a single cabinet goes up, we find the high point of the floor and snap a level line around the room, because no floor in a house that has been through Oklahoma soil movement is flat. Uppers get hung to that line, base cabinets get shimmed to it, and the result is a run of counters that reads straight even though the floor is not. Studs get located and marked, and cabinets are fastened into framing rather than into drywall anchors. Filler strips and scribes handle walls that are out of plumb so there is no visible gap between the cabinet and the wall, which is exactly the detail that makes a professional install look different from a DIY one.
Islands, Pantries and Built-Ins
Islands are where most of the site-specific work happens. An island needs to be anchored to the floor, which on a slab means fastening cleats into concrete, and if it carries a sink or receptacles the plumbing and electrical have to be roughed in through the slab or the ceiling below before the island lands. Pantry walls, floor-to-ceiling cabinet runs and appliance garages are all straightforward once the framing and blocking are right. Doors, Hardware and Finishing
The last ten percent of a cabinet install is what people actually judge. Door and drawer alignment gets adjusted at the hinges so reveals are consistent across the whole run. Soft-close hinges and full-extension drawer slides are worth specifying if the cabinet line offers them. Handles and knobs get set with a jig so they are identical from cabinet to cabinet rather than eyeballed. Crown molding, light rail, toe kick and end panels tie the run to the walls and floor.
