Post-War Housing Built Around Tinker
Midwest City exists because of Tinker Air Force Base. The town was planned in the early 1940s to house the base workforce, and the Original Mile still holds those compact, well built, single story homes on tight lots. They were designed for a different way of living: one small bathroom, a closed off kitchen, narrow hallways, minimal closet space, and original plumbing and wiring that has been added to piecemeal for decades. Remodeling here is genuinely different from remodeling a 2005 house in Edmond. Walls hide surprises, drain lines are cast iron, and the framing does not always match modern dimensions. We plan for that. When we open a wall in an Original Mile home we expect to find something, and the estimate accounts for the reality rather than the best case.
Bathroom Remodels and Walk-In Showers
The single most requested job we do in Midwest City is a bathroom. Most of these homes still have the original tub with a tiled or fiberglass surround, a small vanity, and a floor that has taken on water at the toilet flange over the years. We tear the room out to the studs, replace what is rotted, update the supply and drain work in the walls we have opened, waterproof properly, and rebuild with new tile, a new vanity, new lighting and new fixtures. Tub-to-shower conversions and full walk-in showers are especially popular with longtime residents and retirees who want to stay in the house they have owned for decades and stop stepping over a tub wall to get clean.

Kitchens, Flooring, Drywall, and Texture
Midwest City kitchens are usually small and closed off, and the most valuable improvements are often the least dramatic: new flooring that runs continuously, cabinetry that actually uses the wall height, a tile backsplash, better lighting, and paint that brightens a room with one window. When a wall can come out to open the kitchen to the living space, we talk that through carefully before touching it. Throughout these homes we do a lot of drywall and texture work, because plaster patched with drywall patched with more drywall leaves walls that never look right. We skim, float and match the texture so the wall reads as one surface, then prime and paint. Interior and exterior painting, trim and door work and carpentry all come from the same crew.
Concrete, Driveways, and Storm Repair
The original driveways and sidewalks in Midwest City are decades old, poured thin by current standards, and sitting on clay that moves every season. Many are now a set of tilted panels rather than a slab. We tear out and repour driveways, approaches, sidewalks, porches, patios and steps with a proper base and joints placed where the concrete will want to crack. Storm season brings the rest of the work: roof repair and replacement, gutters and fascia, and then the interior repairs that follow a leak, which means removing wet material, hanging new drywall, matching texture and repainting. Handling both halves of storm damage with one crew keeps the house from sitting half finished while you wait on a second contractor.
Free Estimates in Midwest City and the East Side
We cover all of Midwest City, including the Original Mile, the Soldier Creek and Country Estates areas, the Reno Avenue corridor and the neighborhoods around Tinker Air Force Base and Town Center Plaza. Del City, east Oklahoma City and Edmond are all part of the same weekly route for us. Shekinah Renovations is a service-area business serving the whole Oklahoma City metro, so we come to the house. Estimates are free and made in person, because a 1950s bathroom cannot be priced accurately from a photograph. Call or text Jimmy Garces Jr. at (405) 532-3348, tell us what you are dealing with, and we will come look at it and give you a straight answer.

The part you cannot see is the part that fails
Nearly every complaint we hear about a previous contractor is about something underneath: prep that got skipped, waterproofing that was never there, a texture nobody matched. Those are the parts that decide whether work is still good in ten years.
Prep gets the time it needs
Base compaction under concrete, subfloor repair under flooring, surface prep under paint, waterproofing behind tile. It is the invisible half of every trade and the half that decides how long the visible half lasts.
One person is accountable start to finish
Jimmy does the walkthrough, writes the estimate, and is on site while the work happens. Nothing gets lost between a salesperson, a scheduler, and a crew who never spoke to you.
Surprises reach you before they become line items
Rotted subfloor, a hidden leak, wiring that is not to code. When we find something, work stops and you get a call with what it is and what it costs before we touch it.
The site is clean when we leave
Debris hauled off, floors swept, the room put back. The job is finished when you cannot tell we were there except for the work.
Letting someone you found online into your house
It is a fair thing to be careful about, and we would rather answer it straight than talk around it. Shekinah Renovations is a newer company name. Jimmy is not new to the trade. He started at fourteen, learned it from his stepdad, and has been doing this work ever since.
- Every photo and video on this site is Jimmy's own work around the OKC metro. None of it is stock.
- We will put you in touch with people we have done work for. Ask on the walkthrough.
- Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. Where a trade is licensed, we say so and bring in the right partner.
- The estimate is free and written down. You know the number, and the scope, before anything starts.
- The person who quotes your job is the person who shows up to do it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, that is one of our most common Midwest City jobs. These 1940s Tinker-era homes usually still have the original tub, a failing surround and a subfloor that has taken on water at the toilet. We tear out to the studs, replace what is rotted, update the plumbing in the open walls, waterproof and rebuild.
Yes. Tub-to-shower conversions are popular with longtime Midwest City residents who want to stay in the home and stop stepping over a tub wall. We handle the demolition, tile, valves, fixtures, lighting and the drywall, texture and paint that finish the room.
Yes, we work throughout Midwest City including the neighborhoods around Tinker, Soldier Creek, Country Estates and Town Center Plaza, and next door in Del City. Free estimates: (405) 532-3348.
No. Estimates are free everywhere we work, including Midwest City. Jimmy comes out, looks at the job, measures what needs measuring, and gives you a written price. There is no fee and no obligation to hire us afterward.
It depends entirely on the size of the space, the materials you pick, and what we find once we open things up. That is why we look at the job in person before quoting. Call or text (405) 532-3348 and we will come out to Midwest City and put a real number in front of you.
Both. We do full kitchen and bathroom remodels, and we also patch drywall, fix a leaking valve, hang a TV, pour a small pad, tear out one wall, or repaint one room. If it is on the list of things we do, the job is not too small to call or text about.
That depends on what is already on the schedule and how big the job is. Small repairs often happen within a few days. Larger remodels get scheduled once the estimate is approved and materials are ordered. Call or text and we will tell you honestly where we are.
Yes, anything and everything. Inside: demolition, drywall, texture, paint, flooring, tile, bathrooms, kitchens, trim, and carpentry. Outside: concrete, roofing, fencing, landscaping, and window installation. Most Midwest City jobs end up being a mix of both, and one crew handles the whole thing.
Fair question, and it is the one we would ask too. Shekinah Renovations is a newer company, but Jimmy is not new to the trade. He started at fourteen, learned it from his stepdad, and has been doing this work ever since. Every photo and video on this site is his own work around the metro, not stock, and we are glad to put you in touch with people we have worked for. He is also the one who shows up for the estimate and the one on site while the work happens.
Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. For the trades the Construction Industries Board does license, Jimmy has applications in progress and we will tell you that plainly rather than imply otherwise. Where a job requires a licensed plumber, electrician, or registered roofer, we bring in the right trade partner for that portion. Ask about your specific job and you will get a straight answer.
Usually the same day. Call or text (405) 532-3348 and it reaches Jimmy directly. If he is on a job site with his hands full he will get back to you as soon as he is off it. Most people call two or three contractors and hire whoever actually answers, so we try to be that one.
