What materials are used for patio covers and pergolas?

We use pressure-treated lumber, composite materials, and powder-coated steel for long-term durability in Oklahoma’s climate. Wood pergolas get sealed with exterior-grade polyurethane to resist rot from clay soil moisture. Our covers feature sloped tops with 1/4" per foot pitch to shed rainwater efficiently. For high-wind zones, we reinforce frames with galvanized steel brackets and anchor to concrete footings below the frost line.

How do you ensure the structure handles Oklahoma weather?

Every design accounts for Oklahoma’s extremes: UV-resistant finishes prevent warping, hurricane straps secure against 70+ mph winds, and impact-resistant polycarbonate panels survive hail. We engineer pergolas with 12" on-center beam spacing to reduce sagging under snow load. For shade structures over decks, we install vapor barriers to prevent condensation from cooling your concrete slab. Our 5-ply gable roof system outperforms standard 3-ply in heavy rain events.

Why choose a custom design over pre-built options?

Custom builds adapt to your home’s architecture and outdoor flow. We align pergola columns with your home’s fascia board, match deck rail heights for seamless transitions, and angle shade structures to follow the sun’s path in Edmond’s summer. Unlike generic kits, our designs integrate with existing features like built-in grills, outdoor speakers, and LED lighting. You’ll get structural calculations specific to your lot’s soil composition rather than one-size-fits-all specs.

Are there different styles available for my space?

Choose from gable roof covers, slat pergolas, or tensioned canopy systems. Wood options include cedar, redwood, or mahogany with hickory or ipe accents. In Norman’s historic districts, we replicate Craftsman-era brackets and balusters. For modern homes in Yukon, we offer clean-lined steel frames with adjustable louvers. All designs balance your aesthetic goals with Oklahoma’s building code requirements for wind zones and snow loads.

Can a pergola be integrated with an existing deck or patio?

Yes—we design connections that preserve your existing hardscape. For concrete patios, we pour new footings 18" below grade and use expansion joints to prevent cracking from clay soil shifts. When tying to decks in Midwest City, we install hidden fasteners between composite boards and use 6" diameter steel posts to match deck post spacing. Our crews regrade and compact soil around new structures to direct water away from foundations and prevent pooling.

Carpentry shows every shortcut

Trim, decks, and built-ins are judged up close, in good light, from a foot away. There is nowhere to hide a gap.

  • Scribed and fit to the house you have

Walls bow, floors slope, and corners are rarely ninety degrees. Good trim is cut to the conditions in front of it, not to what the room should theoretically measure.

  • Fasteners and material picked for where it lives

Exterior and ground-contact work needs rated material and hardware that will not corrode out. Using interior-grade material outside is cheap on day one and expensive in five years.

  • Decks flashed where they meet the house

A ledger fastened to a wall without flashing is a slow leak into the framing. That connection is the most important part of a deck and the least visible.

  • Joints tight, then finished

Miters closed, nail holes filled, edges sanded, and the work left ready for finish rather than left for you to deal with.

Letting someone you found online into your house

It is a fair thing to be careful about, and we would rather answer it straight than talk around it. Shekinah Renovations is a newer company name. Jimmy is not new to the trade. He started at fourteen, learned it from his stepdad, and has been doing this work ever since.

  • Every photo and video on this site is Jimmy's own work around the OKC metro. None of it is stock.
  • We will put you in touch with people we have done work for. Ask on the walkthrough.
  • Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. Where a trade is licensed, we say so and bring in the right partner.
  • The estimate is free and written down. You know the number, and the scope, before anything starts.
  • The person who quotes your job is the person who shows up to do it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. We come out, look at the work, and give you a written price at no charge. You are not signed up for anything by asking.

We do not publish flat prices because no two jobs are the same. Square footage, materials, access, and what we find behind the walls all change the number. Call or text (405) 532-3348 and we will come out and price your actual job.

Small repairs can often be fit in within a few days. Larger remodels start once the estimate is approved and materials are in. Call or text and we will give you a real date rather than a guess.

Yes. Jimmy Garces Jr. is on the job, not just at the sales call. That is also why we can handle several trades on one project instead of handing you off between companies.

The Oklahoma City metro plus about an hour's drive in any direction: Oklahoma City, Edmond, Moore, Norman, Yukon, Mustang, Midwest City, Del City, Bethany, Warr Acres and the smaller towns around them. If you are past that ring, call or text anyway. A job can still be worth the drive.

Fair question, and it is the one we would ask too. Shekinah Renovations is a newer company, but Jimmy is not new to the trade. He started at fourteen, learned it from his stepdad, and has been doing this work ever since. Every photo and video on this site is his own work around the metro, not stock, and we are glad to put you in touch with people we have worked for. He is also the one who shows up for the estimate and the one on site while the work happens.

Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. For the trades the Construction Industries Board does license, Jimmy has applications in progress and we will tell you that plainly rather than imply otherwise. Where a job requires a licensed plumber, electrician, or registered roofer, we bring in the right trade partner for that portion. Ask about your specific job and you will get a straight answer.

Usually the same day. Call or text (405) 532-3348 and it reaches Jimmy directly. If he is on a job site with his hands full he will get back to you as soon as he is off it. Most people call two or three contractors and hire whoever actually answers, so we try to be that one.
