What is a curbless shower and how does it work?
A curbless shower (zero-entry design) eliminates the raised threshold between your bathroom floor and shower. The shower pan is recessed with a 1/4-inch-per-foot slope toward a linear drain. This requires precise waterproofing of walls and floors to prevent leaks. In Oklahoma’s freeze-thaw cycles, we use reinforced shower pans and high-density backer board to handle temperature shifts without cracking.
Why choose curbless for Oklahoma homes?
Curbless showers improve safety for seniors and reduce tripping risks. The open design also makes cleaning easier. In Oklahoma’s clay-heavy soils, proper waterproofing is critical to prevent moisture wicking through concrete slabs. We install 10-mil waterproofing membranes under tile and use Schluter Kerdi boards to block moisture. Linear drains (like Mohawk LiniDrain) handle heavy rainfall runoff common in summer storms.

Oklahoma’s wind-driven rains and hail require robust drainage. We engineer shower pans with 2% slope toward linear drains, using cement board under tile to maintain the grade. For homes with sloped subfloors, we build up with hydraulic cement to create the proper pitch. All drains are pressure-tested before tiling. In areas with high water tables, we add perimeter drainage channels to prevent basement seepage.
Can curbless showers fit small bathrooms in Edmond or Norman?
Yes, we design compact curbless showers starting at 36x36 inches. For tight spaces, we use corner linear drains and low-profile bench seating. In Moore or Midwest City homes with older plumbing, we reroute waste lines to match the new drain location. Glass enclosures with pivot doors save space compared to swinging shower curtains. We coordinate with plumbers to ensure waste lines meet Oklahoma’s building codes for slope and venting.
What’s the process from design to installation?
1) We measure your bathroom and assess subfloor conditions. 2) Custom shower pan is built with 1/4-inch slope. 3) Waterproofing layers go on before tile. 4) Tile is set with thin-set mortar and grouted with mold-resistant products. 5) Final inspection includes 24-hour water test. For retrofit jobs in Yukon or Del City, we remove old tile and patch subfloors before starting. Finish with ceramic or porcelain tile for freeze-thaw resistance.
A shower fails behind the tile, not on it
Tile is the finish. Whether a bathroom is still sound in ten years is decided by the layers nobody ever sees, and by whether anyone bothered to lay the job out before cutting.
Backer board set in mortar and screwed down
Cement board over a subfloor needs a bed of mortar under it and to be fastened properly. Screwed down over an air gap, it flexes, and flex is what cracks grout and tile later.
Waterproofing behind the surface
Seams, corners, and changes of plane are where water gets in. Those get waterproofed before tile goes on. A shower that was never waterproofed can look perfect and still be rotting the wall behind it.
The layout gets planned before the first cut
Niches lined up to the tile joints, full tiles where the eye lands, and cuts pushed to the edges. A niche that was cut in as an afterthought is obvious forever, and it is the detail people complain about most.
Slope, drain, and grout done to spec
Pans get sloped to the drain so water actually leaves. Grout and sealant get the right product for a wet area, and the joints get the cure time they need before the shower goes back into use.

It is a fair thing to be careful about, and we would rather answer it straight than talk around it. Shekinah Renovations is a newer company name. Jimmy is not new to the trade. He started at fourteen, learned it from his stepdad, and has been doing this work ever since.
- Every photo and video on this site is Jimmy's own work around the OKC metro. None of it is stock.
- We will put you in touch with people we have done work for. Ask on the walkthrough.
- Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. Where a trade is licensed, we say so and bring in the right partner.
- The estimate is free and written down. You know the number, and the scope, before anything starts.
- The person who quotes your job is the person who shows up to do it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. We come out, look at the work, and give you a written price at no charge. You are not signed up for anything by asking.
We do not publish flat prices because no two jobs are the same. Square footage, materials, access, and what we find behind the walls all change the number. Call or text (405) 532-3348 and we will come out and price your actual job.
Small repairs can often be fit in within a few days. Larger remodels start once the estimate is approved and materials are in. Call or text and we will give you a real date rather than a guess.
Yes. Jimmy Garces Jr. is on the job, not just at the sales call. That is also why we can handle several trades on one project instead of handing you off between companies.
The Oklahoma City metro plus about an hour's drive in any direction: Oklahoma City, Edmond, Moore, Norman, Yukon, Mustang, Midwest City, Del City, Bethany, Warr Acres and the smaller towns around them. If you are past that ring, call or text anyway. A job can still be worth the drive.
Fair question, and it is the one we would ask too. Shekinah Renovations is a newer company, but Jimmy is not new to the trade. He started at fourteen, learned it from his stepdad, and has been doing this work ever since. Every photo and video on this site is his own work around the metro, not stock, and we are glad to put you in touch with people we have worked for. He is also the one who shows up for the estimate and the one on site while the work happens.
Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. For the trades the Construction Industries Board does license, Jimmy has applications in progress and we will tell you that plainly rather than imply otherwise. Where a job requires a licensed plumber, electrician, or registered roofer, we bring in the right trade partner for that portion. Ask about your specific job and you will get a straight answer.
Usually the same day. Call or text (405) 532-3348 and it reaches Jimmy directly. If he is on a job site with his hands full he will get back to you as soon as he is off it. Most people call two or three contractors and hire whoever actually answers, so we try to be that one.
