Bathroom Remodeling in Oklahoma City

Shekinah Renovations LLC remodels bathrooms across the Oklahoma City metro, from a single tub replaced with a walk-in shower to a full gut and rebuild with new tile, vanity, lighting and flooring. Owner Jimmy Garces Jr. handles demolition, the plumbing and electrical changes the new layout needs, waterproofing, tile, texture and paint, so the bathroom comes back together as one finished room instead of a series of separate visits. Estimates are free. Call or text (405) 532-3348 to get on the schedule.

What a Full Bathroom Remodel Includes

A complete bathroom remodel starts with protecting the path from the front door to the bathroom, then demolition down to the studs and subfloor where the scope calls for it. Once it is open we can see what the previous work hid: soft subfloor around a leaking toilet flange, rotted framing behind a tub surround, a drain that was never vented right. Those repairs get priced before they get covered back up. From there it is rough plumbing and electrical for the new layout, backer board and waterproofing, tile, the vanity and countertop, mirror, lighting and exhaust fan, then texture and paint to match the rest of the house. The last step is the punch walk, where you point at anything that bothers you and it gets fixed.

Walk-In Showers and Tub Conversions

The two projects homeowners in the metro ask about most are [walk-in shower installation](/services/walk-in-shower-installation) and [tub-to-shower conversion](/services/tub-to-shower-conversion). Both solve the same problem, which is a bathroom that stopped fitting the people using it. A standard alcove tub is a 14 to 16 inch step over a wet edge, and in a house where somebody has a bad knee, a bad hip or a walker, that step is the reason a second-floor bathroom stops getting used. Converting the tub footprint into a curbless or low-curb shower with a bench and grab blocking usually takes the same square footage and reads as a much larger room.

Waterproofing Is the Part You Never See

The tile is what you look at, but the waterproofing is what determines whether the remodel is still sound in ten years. Failures almost always trace to the same short list: cement board treated as if it were waterproof on its own, no sloped mortar bed or a preformed pan installed out of level, seams and corners left unsealed, and mixed systems where a sheet membrane meets a liquid membrane that was never meant to bond to it. We build the pan to drain, treat the corners, curb and drain flange as the critical details, and stay inside one manufacturer system rather than combining products that were never tested together. Wet-area walls get taken high enough that a shower head spraying at an angle is not a problem.

Tile, Vanities and Fixtures

Material choice is where most of the budget range lives. Large-format porcelain on the walls means fewer grout lines to clean and a more current look, but it needs a flat substrate, so wall prep costs more. A simple 3 by 6 subway layout is affordable and timeless. Mosaic and pebble floors give better traction underfoot but more grout to maintain, which matters with Oklahoma hard water. We will show you the tradeoffs honestly rather than steering you to the most expensive option. Vanities can be stock, semi-custom or built on site as [carpentry](/services/carpentry-and-woodwork) work when the space is an odd width.

Timelines, Permits and Free Estimates

A tub-to-shower conversion is typically a shorter project than a full remodel, but the honest answer on any schedule depends on material lead times and what we find during demolition. Work that moves plumbing or alters circuits generally requires permits and inspection through the city or town the house sits in, and that gets built into the plan rather than skipped. Shekinah Renovations remodels bathrooms in [Oklahoma City](/locations/oklahoma-city), [Edmond](/locations/edmond), [Moore](/locations/moore), [Norman](/locations/norman) and the surrounding metro. A shower fails behind the tile, not on it

Tile is the finish. Whether a bathroom is still sound in ten years is decided by the layers nobody ever sees, and by whether anyone bothered to lay the job out before cutting.

  • Backer board set in mortar and screwed down

Cement board over a subfloor needs a bed of mortar under it and to be fastened properly. Screwed down over an air gap, it flexes, and flex is what cracks grout and tile later.

  • Waterproofing behind the surface

Seams, corners, and changes of plane are where water gets in. Those get waterproofed before tile goes on. A shower that was never waterproofed can look perfect and still be rotting the wall behind it.

  • The layout gets planned before the first cut

Niches lined up to the tile joints, full tiles where the eye lands, and cuts pushed to the edges. A niche that was cut in as an afterthought is obvious forever, and it is the detail people complain about most.

  • Slope, drain, and grout done to spec

Pans get sloped to the drain so water actually leaves. Grout and sealant get the right product for a wet area, and the joints get the cure time they need before the shower goes back into use.

Letting someone you found online into your house

It is a fair thing to be careful about, and we would rather answer it straight than talk around it. Shekinah Renovations is a newer company name. Jimmy is not new to the trade. He started at fourteen, learned it from his stepdad, and has been doing this work ever since.

  • Every photo and video on this site is Jimmy's own work around the OKC metro. None of it is stock.
  • We will put you in touch with people we have done work for. Ask on the walkthrough.
  • Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. Where a trade is licensed, we say so and bring in the right partner.
  • The estimate is free and written down. You know the number, and the scope, before anything starts.
  • The person who quotes your job is the person who shows up to do it.

Frequently Asked Questions

It depends entirely on scope: a tub-to-shower conversion in the existing footprint costs far less than a full gut with a new layout, moved plumbing, new tile, vanity and flooring. Tile and fixture selections move the number the most. Estimates are free and itemized so you can see what each choice adds.

It depends on scope, material lead times, and what we find during demolition, such as a soft subfloor or a drain that was never vented correctly. We set a realistic schedule at the estimate rather than quoting a number that ignores those variables.

Cosmetic work usually does not require one. Work that moves plumbing or alters electrical circuits generally does require permits and inspection through the city or town the house sits in. That gets built into the plan rather than skipped.

Yes, and it is one of the most requested projects in the metro. A standard alcove tub footprint converts into a comfortable one-person shower without moving walls. The drain typically has to move, which on a slab house means opening a small area of concrete.

Almost always the waterproofing, not the tile. Common causes are treating cement board as if it were waterproof, unsealed corners and curbs, a pan installed out of level, and mixing products from incompatible systems. We stay inside one manufacturer system and flood test before tile goes on.

Fair question, and it is the one we would ask too. Shekinah Renovations is a newer company, but Jimmy is not new to the trade. He started at fourteen, learned it from his stepdad, and has been doing this work ever since. Every photo and video on this site is his own work around the metro, not stock, and we are glad to put you in touch with people we have worked for. He is also the one who shows up for the estimate and the one on site while the work happens.

Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. For the trades the Construction Industries Board does license, Jimmy has applications in progress and we will tell you that plainly rather than imply otherwise. Where a job requires a licensed plumber, electrician, or registered roofer, we bring in the right trade partner for that portion. Ask about your specific job and you will get a straight answer.

Usually the same day. Call or text (405) 532-3348 and it reaches Jimmy directly. If he is on a job site with his hands full he will get back to you as soon as he is off it. Most people call two or three contractors and hire whoever actually answers, so we try to be that one.
