Grading and Drainage Come First
Before anything gets planted, the water has to be going the right direction. A yard that slopes toward the house, downspouts that dump next to the foundation, and low spots that hold water after a storm cause far bigger problems than an unattractive bed line, because in expansive clay soil, water sitting against a foundation is what moves it. Correcting grade so the ground falls away from the house, extending downspouts, cutting a swale to route runoff, and adding a French drain or a channel drain in a chronically wet area are the least glamorous and most valuable landscaping work we do.

Full sun exposure, wind, alkaline clay soil and swings from triple digit summer days to hard winter freezes will kill anything chosen from a catalog picture rather than for this region. Native and adapted plants that handle heat and periodic drought are the sensible backbone, with color where you actually look at it from the house and the driveway. Beds get defined with steel, stone or concrete edging so mulch stays put and mowing is simple, soil gets amended because raw clay is not a growing medium, and mulch goes down at a depth that suppresses weeds without smothering roots.
Sod, Seed and Turf Areas
Bermuda and zoysia are the warm season grasses that do well in central Oklahoma sun, and fescue is what people use in the shady areas where bermuda thins out and gives up. Sod gives you an instant lawn and needs the ground prepared and leveled first, plus consistent watering while it roots. For the trades the Construction Industries Board does license, Jimmy has applications in progress and we will tell you that plainly rather than imply otherwise. Where a job requires a licensed plumber, electrician, or registered roofer, we bring in the right trade partner for that portion. Ask about your specific job and you will get a straight answer.
