Vinyl Plank Flooring Installation in Oklahoma City

Shekinah Renovations LLC installs luxury vinyl plank flooring across the Oklahoma City metro. LVP is waterproof, holds up to pets and kids, looks like wood or stone, and can go over a slab without the humidity worries that come with real hardwood. The catch is that it needs a flat substrate and correct expansion gaps, which is exactly where most bad installs go wrong. Free estimates. Call or text (405) 532-3348.

Why LVP Took Over Oklahoma Homes

Vinyl plank does several things at once that no other product does at the price. It is fully waterproof, so a dishwasher leak or a kid with a cup is an inconvenience rather than a floor replacement. Its wear layer resists dog nails and dragged furniture better than laminate or a soft wood like pine. It installs over concrete slabs without a moisture barrier headache in most cases, and most metro homes are on slab. It is warmer and quieter underfoot than tile. And it comes in wood and stone visuals that have gotten genuinely convincing, especially in wider planks with an embossed texture that follows the grain.

Click-Lock Floating Versus Glue Down

Most residential LVP installs today are rigid core click-lock planks that float over the substrate with no adhesive. Floating floors are faster, they tolerate minor substrate movement, and individual planks can be replaced if one gets damaged. Glue-down LVP is used in commercial settings, in very large open runs, over radiant heat, and where a floor needs to feel completely solid underfoot. Glue-down demands a flatter and cleaner substrate and is far harder to remove later. We will recommend one based on the room and the substrate rather than on what is quickest to install.

Flatness, Moisture and Underlayment

Manufacturers publish a flatness tolerance, commonly a small fraction of an inch over a set span, and a floating floor over a substrate outside that tolerance will flex at the joints and eventually separate or crack the locking edge. Slabs in the metro often need grinding at high spots and self-leveler in the low ones. Concrete also carries moisture, so on below grade or questionable slabs a moisture test and a vapor barrier are cheap insurance. Many rigid core products come with attached underlayment, in which case adding a second pad is a mistake that makes the floor spongy and voids the warranty.

Layout, Cuts and Finish Details

Plank direction is usually run with the longest sightline or parallel to the main light source. Rows get staggered so end joints are well offset rather than falling into a repeating stair pattern, and we plan the first and last row so the final row is not a two inch sliver. Expansion gap goes at every wall, cabinet, island, pipe and door jamb, hidden afterward under base and shoe or quarter round. Door jambs get undercut so the plank slides under rather than being scribed around, which is the detail that separates a clean install from a caulked one. Transitions to carpet, tile or exterior thresholds are set flush and fastened.

Free LVP Estimates

Tell us the rooms, the approximate square footage and what is on the floor now, and we can give you a range. A free written estimate follows a measure visit where we check how flat the slab or subfloor actually is, since prep is the variable that moves the price. What goes wrong under a floor

Most flooring complaints are not about the flooring. They are about the surface it went down on and the prep that got skipped to hit a price.

  • The subfloor gets checked and fixed first

Soft spots, squeaks, water damage, and high or low areas do not go away under new flooring, they telegraph through it. We find them before anything is laid and tell you what the repair costs before we proceed.

  • Flat, within tolerance

Plank and tile both have flatness requirements. Laid over a floor that is out of tolerance, plank flexes at the seams and tile cracks or ends up with lippage. Where a floor needs leveling, it gets leveled.

  • Moisture handled on slabs

Concrete gives off moisture, and it will ruin a floor from underneath. Slab installs get the underlayment and moisture barrier the material calls for.

  • Transitions, trim, and expansion done properly

Floating floors need room to move at the walls or they buckle. Transitions between rooms and materials get real trim rather than a strip of filler, and quarter round goes back so the edges look finished.

Letting someone you found online into your house

It is a fair thing to be careful about, and we would rather answer it straight than talk around it. Shekinah Renovations is a newer company name. Jimmy is not new to the trade. He started at fourteen, learned it from his stepdad, and has been doing this work ever since.

  • Every photo and video on this site is Jimmy's own work around the OKC metro. None of it is stock.
  • We will put you in touch with people we have done work for. Ask on the walkthrough.
  • Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. Where a trade is licensed, we say so and bring in the right partner.
  • The estimate is free and written down. You know the number, and the scope, before anything starts.
  • The person who quotes your job is the person who shows up to do it.

Frequently Asked Questions

The plank material itself is waterproof, which is why a dishwasher leak or a spill is an inconvenience rather than a floor replacement. Standing water can still get through seams to the substrate over time, so leaks should still be dealt with promptly.

Most residential installs are rigid core click-lock planks that float, which is faster, tolerates minor substrate movement and allows individual plank replacement. Glue-down is used in very large runs, over radiant heat and where a floor must feel completely solid, and it needs a flatter substrate.

Only if the product does not have it attached. Many rigid core planks include attached underlayment, and adding a second pad makes the floor feel spongy and typically voids the warranty.

Sometimes, if the tile is stuck down well and the grout lines are filled and flattened so the plank is fully supported. Otherwise the joints flex over every grout line. We assess it on site instead of assuming.

Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. For the trades the Construction Industries Board does license, Jimmy has applications in progress and we will tell you that plainly rather than imply otherwise. Where a job requires a licensed plumber, electrician, or registered roofer, we bring in the right trade partner for that portion. Ask about your specific job and you will get a straight answer.
