Laminate Flooring Installation in Oklahoma City
Shekinah Renovations LLC installs laminate flooring throughout the Oklahoma City metro. Laminate gives you a very hard wear surface and a convincing wood look at a lower price point than hardwood or premium vinyl plank, and modern water resistant products have closed much of the gap that used to make people avoid it. Owner Jimmy Garces Jr. handles prep, install, trim and transitions. Free estimates. Call or text (405) 532-3348.
What Laminate Is Good At
Laminate is a dense fiberboard core with a printed decorative layer and a tough clear wear layer on top. That wear layer is genuinely hard, which is why laminate resists scratching and scuffing better than many softer real wood species, and why it holds up in a house with dogs and kids. It clicks together and floats, so it installs quickly with no adhesive and no nails. The visuals and surface texture have improved a lot, and a good laminate in a wide plank with an embossed grain reads convincingly at normal eye level. It is the best value per square foot in the flooring aisle for a large area.
Where to Use It and Where Not To
The honest limitation is water. Standard laminate has a fiberboard core that swells irreversibly if water sits on a seam long enough, and a swollen plank cannot be sanded or repaired, only replaced. Water resistant and waterproof core laminates have improved this considerably, but for a full bathroom, a laundry room or a basement, [vinyl plank](/services/vinyl-plank-flooring) or [tile](/services/tile-flooring-installation) is still the safer answer. Laminate is a great fit for bedrooms, living rooms, hallways, offices and dining rooms. We will tell you where the product line you are looking at actually stands rather than repeating the marketing.
Subfloor Prep and Underlayment
Because laminate floats, it needs a flat substrate within the manufacturer tolerance. Dips let the click joints flex every time you walk over them until they eventually unlock or the core chips, and that shows up as a clicking sound and then a gap. We straightedge the floor, grind high spots and fill low ones. Over a concrete slab, a vapor barrier is required, and some underlayments include it while others do not, so it gets checked rather than assumed. Where the plank has attached pad, no additional underlayment goes down, since stacking pad makes the floor feel soft and voids warranties.
Install Details That Prevent Callbacks
Laminate gets acclimated in the house first, then racked so the pattern repeat does not line up visibly across the room and end joints stagger well apart. The expansion gap is the critical detail: laminate expands across a room measurably with seasonal humidity, and a floor installed tight to a wall, a cabinet toe kick, a hearth or a door jamb will peak in the middle of an Oklahoma summer. Very large continuous runs need a transition, not a single unbroken field. Door jambs get undercut so plank slides beneath, and base and shoe cover the gap without pinching the floor to the subfloor.

What goes wrong under a floor
Most flooring complaints are not about the flooring. They are about the surface it went down on and the prep that got skipped to hit a price.
The subfloor gets checked and fixed first
Soft spots, squeaks, water damage, and high or low areas do not go away under new flooring, they telegraph through it. We find them before anything is laid and tell you what the repair costs before we proceed.
Flat, within tolerance
Plank and tile both have flatness requirements. Laid over a floor that is out of tolerance, plank flexes at the seams and tile cracks or ends up with lippage. Where a floor needs leveling, it gets leveled.
Moisture handled on slabs
Concrete gives off moisture, and it will ruin a floor from underneath. Slab installs get the underlayment and moisture barrier the material calls for.
Transitions, trim, and expansion done properly
Floating floors need room to move at the walls or they buckle. Transitions between rooms and materials get real trim rather than a strip of filler, and quarter round goes back so the edges look finished.

Letting someone you found online into your house
It is a fair thing to be careful about, and we would rather answer it straight than talk around it. Shekinah Renovations is a newer company name. Jimmy is not new to the trade. He started at fourteen, learned it from his stepdad, and has been doing this work ever since.
- Every photo and video on this site is Jimmy's own work around the OKC metro. None of it is stock.
- We will put you in touch with people we have done work for. Ask on the walkthrough.
- Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. Where a trade is licensed, we say so and bring in the right partner.
- The estimate is free and written down. You know the number, and the scope, before anything starts.
- The person who quotes your job is the person who shows up to do it.
Frequently Asked Questions
Usually not. Standard laminate has a fiberboard core that swells irreversibly if water sits on a seam, and a swollen plank can only be replaced. For full baths, laundry rooms and basements, vinyl plank or tile is the safer answer.
Laminate typically has a harder wear layer and resists scratching well, and it costs less per square foot. Vinyl plank is waterproof and more forgiving over imperfect substrates. Which one is right depends on the room and the traffic.
Because the substrate underneath is not flat within the manufacturer tolerance. Dips let the locking joints flex with every step until they unlock or the core chips. Flattening the floor first is what prevents it.
Yes, at every wall, cabinet toe kick, hearth, pipe and door jamb. Laminate expands measurably across a room with seasonal humidity, and a floor pinched tight will peak in the middle of an Oklahoma summer.
Fair question, and it is the one we would ask too. Shekinah Renovations is a newer company, but Jimmy is not new to the trade. He started at fourteen, learned it from his stepdad, and has been doing this work ever since. Every photo and video on this site is his own work around the metro, not stock, and we are glad to put you in touch with people we have worked for. He is also the one who shows up for the estimate and the one on site while the work happens.
Oklahoma does not issue a general contractor or remodeler license, so for most of what we do there is no state license to hold. For the trades the Construction Industries Board does license, Jimmy has applications in progress and we will tell you that plainly rather than imply otherwise. Where a job requires a licensed plumber, electrician, or registered roofer, we bring in the right trade partner for that portion. Ask about your specific job and you will get a straight answer.
Usually the same day. Call or text (405) 532-3348 and it reaches Jimmy directly. If he is on a job site with his hands full he will get back to you as soon as he is off it. Most people call two or three contractors and hire whoever actually answers, so we try to be that one.
